Hello, I'm Matthew! I am a Registered Psychologist specialising in therapy for adolescents (13+ years) and adults, with a strong focus on Men’s Mental Health, Neurodiversity and the LGBTQIA+ community.

I completed my psychology honours degree through studies in both Australia and the United States, where I conducted a yearlong research project exploring romantic self-sabotage within gender and sexually diverse populations.

My therapeutic approach is strengths-based and solution-focused, drawing on evidence-based techniques tailored to each client’s unique needs. These include:

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

• Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

• Motivational Interviewing

I strive to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where clients feel understood, valued, and empowered to create meaningful change. My goal is to help individuals build the skills and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease and resilience.

Can you discuss a particular area of psychology that you are passionate about and explain why it’s important to you and your clients?

I’m especially passionate about supporting the LGBTQI+ community, because I understand how exploring gender and sexual identity can be a deeply personal, sometimes challenging journey. Many people feel pressure to conform or struggle with self-acceptance, and that can impact mental health in so many ways. My goal is to create a safe and judgment-free space where clients feel truly seen, heard, and supported. Together, we work through the challenges, build self-understanding, and create meaningful change that fosters confidence and authenticity.

In what ways do you adapt your therapy approach to meet the unique needs of each client?

I believe therapy should feel comfortable, supportive, and tailored to you. That’s why I regularly check in to make sure our sessions feel helpful and aligned with what you need. I also encourage open feedback—because what works for one person may not work for another. Together, we set meaningful goals and adjust along the way to make sure therapy feels like a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make progress at your own pace.

Was there a personal experience or a particular moment in your life that inspired you to become a psychologist?

I’ve always been fascinated by people’s stories—what they’ve been through, how they see the world, and what they hope for. From a young age, I found myself drawn to listening, supporting, and helping others find clarity in difficult moments. Psychology felt like a natural path because it allows me to do what I love: help people feel understood, navigate challenges, and discover their own strengths. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they work toward healing and growth.

What were some pivotal moments during your education or training that shaped your current approach to psychology?

Throughout my training, I’ve had many experiences that have shaped how I support my clients today. Learning different therapy approaches gave me the tools, but it was through real conversations, hands-on experience, and guidance from mentors that I truly learned how to personalise therapy to each individual. Every client is unique, and my goal is to create a space where they feel heard, understood, and supported in a way that works best for them.

How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in psychological therapy and mental health care?

I know that therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, and I want to ensure my clients get the best support possible. That’s why I stay up to date by reading the latest research, learning from experts, and reflecting on ways to improve my practice. If I notice a client struggling with something new or unique, I make it a point to seek out fresh strategies to better support them. Therapy should always evolve to meet your needs, and I’m committed to growing alongside my clients.

What can a new client expect during their first session with you? How do you help them feel at ease?

From the moment you walk into your first session, my focus is on making you feel comfortable, heard, and in control of your own pace. Opening up about personal struggles can feel overwhelming, so there’s no pressure—we start wherever you feel ready. I take the time to listen without judgment, create a safe and supportive space, and help you feel at ease through a warm and natural conversation. Therapy isn’t about having all the answers right away—it’s about building trust and working together to create the change you’re looking for.
